@ignaloidas@not.acu.lt from what i can see, comparing the kinematic gauges is wrong too, because they all have slightly different rules about how they're determined they're close enough for making fun maps on the internet but please don't send a train at 300km/h into a tunnel that's too small because you saw a cool map on the internet :)

    @bovine3dom@masto.ai sure, but the structure gauge in this case is way bigger than what the theorethical kinematic gauge would be because there is such a thing as standardized out-of-gauge operations here, with standard measurements for how out of gauge something is, etc. The structure gauge gives you a ton of headroom to put bigger things on the train if needed, the problem is (most of the time) actually other trains on nearby tracks. But if you plan for it, you can run out of gauge trains regularly, it just has to be ensured during planning that you're not going to pass by other out of gauge trains in places where that would result in problems. In this schema, the inner white area is the T static gauge, and the outer black line the S structure gauge. The shaded areas is how much bigger you could potentially get
