Companies that want to give their dodgy products a “science” sheen can easily do so in plenty of APC-financed open/hybrid journals that publish anything as long as you bring the cash (there subscription-based journals are indeed less incentivised). Pre-publication peer review seems like a solid stamp of approval, but it really depends on who those peers were - which the journal steers.
Post-publication review isn’t immune to corruption, but at least it’s out in the open.
