<p>I run a small research facility at the University of Oxford where we paint thin slices of human or animal tissue with probes that tell us what each cell has been up to ( <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/SpatialProteomics" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SpatialProteomics</span></a> ). Using <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/Microscopy" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Microscopy</span></a> and <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/SpatialStatistics" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>SpatialStatistics</span></a>, we then create digital maps of organs ( <a href="https://fediscience.org/tags/DigitalPathology" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>DigitalPathology</span></a> ) to understand how the body works, what went wrong if it doesn’t and how to fix

One of the largest science funders, the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, will cease paying journal “article processing charges” and instead asks funded researchers to publish their work as preprints. This is fantastic. The costs of the current publishing system drain research funds and exclude too many scientists solely due to financial constraints.
