As someone with paranoia who likes to know things and write stories, I find the Tor Browser incredibly useful for research. I can also understand people using it to hide something they're doing from fascist rulers, whether that be selling drugs or existing as queer in certain areas. But every time I see someone suggest average people switch to Tor as an alternative to their day-to-day browser, I get annoyed. You want a browser that's not Chrome? Get Firefox or one of its other forks! You want a browser that doesn't let corporations track you? Use a non-commercial browser and/or install an extension! There are much better ways to casually browse the internet and prevent tracking than routing all of your requests through 3 other people's computers! Worst case you can compromise with a free VPN so websites can't use your IP to fingerprint you. But that's still gonna be a lot faster than using Tor.
