@mariyadelano love the synergy between relieving trauma symptoms and our broken politics - which the people in power seem intentionally to be inflicting trauma on all of us. Incremental change is possible - if we can repair the damage done by trauma in our bodies and lives then we can make positive political change in the world as well.

@mariyadelano Someone bought me a heater this week on mastodon without a second thought and they didnt know me at all. It fixed things for me. I will be on the lookout for someone I can fix things for like that in the near future. Just do that.

@mariyadelano for my one little thing I'm going to save this and send it to people later. I sent out texts to friends and family asking them to call Congress asking for impeachment. What I've noticed is people's threshold is basically one thing and then if you follow up again they get upset. So this will be my next move.

@mariyadelano PLUS!! You get to act all smug around your friends who are complaining and doing nothing. I went to a tiny ( 18 people) anti-ICE protest on a freeway overpass a week or so ago. It was cold and overcast and SO MUCH FUN!

@mariyadelano If folks are looking for a good first step, this is a class war, and we can most effectively prosecute it through the formation of unions. Talk to your coworkers about forming a union. If you already have a union, talk to your coworkers about making it more democratic.

@mariyadelano this was a very helpful outlook Called my congressional rep and both senators this morning, the senators I had to leave a voicemail but I actually got thru to someone for my rep which was nice. Next steps is to introduce myself to some of my neighbors and get some phone numbers so if ICE shows up in my neighborhood we can do a good job looking out for each other It won’t stop every bad thing, but it might stop some bad things and that’s better than nothing

"Sure, going to any one protest, or calling your representative, or boycotting a brand, or changing one person’s mind, or donating to one fundraiser won’t fix the entire broken political regime. But it will help A LITTLE. " And if a lot of us continue to find ways to do things that help a little, it will end up doing a lot more." I also have PTSD, and this reminder has helped.

@mariyadelano There is a hashtag for #ResistOfTheDay that has one message every Monday - Friday to copy and paste into the forms on the websites of your members of Congress. It takes 15 minutes to do each day. Folks then take the message, email it to their 10 friends, who send it to their close friends, etc. But since starting this in February last year, we’ve seen our electeds echo our messages. We’ve seen legislation drafted and proposed and funding decisions reversed. Small steps each and every day. Shed light where you can.

@mariyadelano It's a little thing, a 5% thing. I call my reps, on the PHONE, roughly every fortnight. I don't always get a real person. But I leave a message about something that bothers me, or ask for help with some minor other thing. It's not much. It doesn't require any kind of commitment. But it gets my voice heard. I'd do some volunteer work, but I travel about 260 days/year. Volunteering requires commitment that I'm not around for. I can make phone calls, though.
