@phil_stevens@mastodon.nz @OH3CUF@mastodon.radio Imho meshtastic is a really polished "apple" like user experience. There is a lot of hardware support and it just works. Also really polished UI. I've been looking into reticulum, and from a technical perspective it's vastly superior to MT. But the lack of support, hardware and software wise, is pretty much a dealbreaker for joe average. Is there another alternative you can recommend?

@ozon@chaos.social Yes - Meshtastic has spent quite a lot of effort getting their products polished. Awful lot of work has been done on MT. Meshcore seems popular - I've installed it on few nodes and it worked nicely. I liked the iOS app more than MT. So give Meshcore a spin and check it yourself.

@ozon@chaos.social @OH3CUF@mastodon.radio Lowest common denominator is still a challenge. Reticulum will be the choice of people who are concerned about security, but as you've noted it's nowhere near as simple to implement for the casual user. You could try MeshChat or Sideband as a more user-friendly layer on top of it I like the looks of MeshCore but it's still early days for that: https://github.com/meshcore-dev/MeshCore I've also played with Helium-capable devices but never set up a network with it. Kind of costly for a gateway and has the crypto "feature" that could turn some folks off.
