mine too. they seemed to have the parenting philosophy that if they just beat me enough, and withheld enough love, I would magically become a sweet and good child who didn't need to be beaten and who deserved love. my brother committed suicide before he finished high school. somehow I turned out ok but there was no fucking way I was rolling the dice with having kids.
