As a South African:
The fact that you didn't sell us weapons (and later, oil) was a bigger deal. It helped drive our fascist regime towards surrender, which in turn drove it towards the negotiating table.
But the weapons and energy embargoes could not have happened until the smaller embargoes had shown the way. Did sports and entertainment sanctions drive South Africa to revolution? No. Would the later more effective sanctions have happened if the sports and entertainment sanctions didn't happen? Also no.

@passenger@kolektiva.social @OneInterestingFact@mastodon.ie I remember the boycotts, and that they were enough to make Outspan walk away from the UK market in spite of being a major brand (do they even exist these days?)
