Who is working on inhabitants proportional maps? Any good example for voting or poll results? I am tired of looking at pure geographical maps over representing the conservative right wing countryside or speckguertel. Too much blue in Germany ;) Examples: picture (source?) and #Tilegrams https://www.pitchinteractive.com/work/tilegrams/ (seems outdated)

@aramba@tldr.nettime.org Ich erinnere mich recht deutlich eine geografische Deutschlandkarte gesehen zu haben, wo die einzelnen Wahlkreise in der Darstellung so manipuliert wurden, dass ihr Zentrum gleich bleibt aber ihre Fläche angepasst wurde, sodass die gezeigte Fläche aller Wahlkreise ihre relative Bevölkerung abbildet. Führt natürlich zu jeder Menge "Lücken", aber ist sehr hoch aufgelöst und wenig pixelig. Kann die Karte aber gerade nicht finden... 🫣

@aramba@tldr.nettime.org I'm a GIS Specialist. For proper visualization I'd suggest to just keep the real map in the background putting pie charts in the center of the shapes. Pie size is proportional to the population. Addition: flannery compensation makes sure the human brain interprets the sizes of the pies "correct".

@aramba@tldr.nettime.org datawrapper.de hat größengetreue Karten (Quadrate oder Sechsecke) zB der Bundestagswahlkreise (lässt sich unter Chloropethen als Kartengrundlage auswählen und dann selbst befüllen).
