@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social Yeah, I am a bit wary of recollection from 17 years ago about what an entire WG intended.
Kind of like how it took the ~15 years for someone to come back and say, oh hey, that’s not what we meant with 4.1.1.
Like, where was everyone who understood the intent over the last decade-plus as auditors generally rowed in one direction?

@aardrian@toot.cafe i also particularly like that at some point in the debate (either in that issue, or in the many previous ones/PRs) there was an argument that "oh, this is a very rare edge case, so not a problem in practice", but in the same breath "but we now can't change the interpretation, as it would affect so many many sites retrospectively"
