Think about how much time it would take you to simply acknowledge, say, 300 responses individually. You'd be hard-pressed to do that once, let alone continue that across a month's worth of posting. Having actual conversations....you'd run out of time very quickly. Small wonder celebrities hire people to do that for them.

@R0B0_G0D@retro.pizza hi! i think you are right about this in many circumstances, sure. and i know that checkmark people have an option to not even see replies from non-checkmark accounts, and i'm sure that busier accounts do make use of this feature. also, i have been on the birdsite for long enough to be extremely aware that the dynamic that i described absolutely does exist. 😇 it's most obvious with low-follower checkmark accounts, where there's not a volume-related reason for the behavior.
