@micahilbery@mstdn.social you're missing the forest for the tree. Data centers are not necessary infrastructure. BOINC showed that of community-led distributed compute was somewhat achievable.
Gen algorithms were not *made* to replace humans and solve paying wages. That's just the one nail capitalism is throwing *every* hammer at.
They could power assistive tech (and already do to an extent)
They could prompt people to seek benefits they are entitled to
They could help with repairability of closed hardware

@micahilbery@mstdn.social it's not about what the tech was made for, it's about the goals of the people who have resources to put into it. It's not that there are not good use-cases for it. It's that capitalism is actively preventing them to happen.
