So, after casting about for a bit, I've decided the next record I'm going to work on is a 2nd Occidental Dirt Farmers record. Back when I was going through all old DAW projects, I sorted out 7 demos (let's call them) that would be the basis of this record.
The impetus behind ODF is that it is music I create using non-linear music software. Think Ableton Live's Session View--in fact, these tracks all started in Live. But I've converted all my Live projects to Bitwig so that's where I'll finish writing these songs. I create a grid of my different musical phrases and samples and improvise an arrangement. It's alls software and samples, in the box, as they say. Then bring those recorded tracks into Reaper and mix them, maybe add a few bits and bobs, and Bob's yr uncle.
The first ODF record actually started life in a short-lived software by Cakewalk that was meant to compete with Reason & Live, called Project 5. I was on the beta testing team. The software didn't last long but I the tracks on that record all began as projects made in Project 5, and then embellished and mixed in Cakewalk Sonar.
It may be my least 'popular' record. But I like these tracks and think they hold up.
