There should be a word for those interactions where you ask “have you heard about… ?“ and then respond to their shock with a giggle and nod and say “I know its so bad!” And giggle again and say “everything is so fucked.” And then you look at the ground and shake your head and wonder what was so funny about the crime you just described.
