@lisamelton@mastodon.social I'm using @ivory@tapbots.social on iOS and iPadOS. The web version depends on your instance, and what they choose. My gripe with the web versions is that timestamps are differential. I don't want to know how long ago something was posted — I want to know *when* in system time format (I prefer 24-hour time). And yes, I use emdashes. My COMM 1303 instructor was insistent that we learn how to punctuate them correctly, and they've easy using the TypWise keyboard.

@lisamelton@mastodon.social @ivory This is what I see on my iPhone. If you are here to say she's doing it wrong, leave now.

@vor@lgbtqia.space @lisamelton@mastodon.social @ivory@tapbots.social I use a double dash instead of an emdash. It personalizes my toots. This is an aesthetic choice, mine. Yet when I type a double dash, the software that runs this place forces it to turn into an emdash. I get around this by typing a double dash into a text file and the cutting and pasting it into the toot. This is an affront to my personal autonomy. Admins, please fix this. It’s unseemly to disrespect the autonomy of content providers. It’s not like we were getting paid or anything. All we get out of contributing content here and not someplace else is autonomy. We’re owed at least that much. A double dash that has been forcibly into an emdash is what used be called “bowdlerized”. Do we really want Mastodon to be known for being bowdlerizers? I think not.
