Today I learned that in @librewolf I can type "translate" in the URL bar and get to a text translation UI. This is powered by a local model and part of the Firefox translation thingy. I guess it must work the same way in Firefox? Anyway, this is great. Local model, pretty solid translations, now possible to use directly to translate copy-pasted text snippets, not just text on a website. Local models will eat Big AI's cake. (usual caveats apply, such translations are always imperfect!)
