Yes, and as for String Theory, it's unfortunate that it didn't get the job done for physics, but I'm under the impression that it developed a certain amount of mathematics, anyway.
(That pesky problem of describing way too many possible universes, rather than just ours.)

The paradigm could have rolled over a bit more gracefully, but that's not really a science problem so much as it is an administrative problem: A scientific theory eventually either peters out or it obtains funding mechanisms and training programs, which are bureaucratically inured against coincidental death.
