It's a little bit strange to realize how much the animation industry has probably been driven by the question of "can this character be made into a toy". And honestly, separated from the uglinesses of the toy industry, it's not even really a bad question. Toys aren't inherently a bad thing, and characters should spark the viewer's imagination the way a good toy does. Just, you know, as long as the whole thing doesn't just exist to convince kids they need more plastic.
