After about first or second grade, birthdays always felt weird to me, and that feeling intensified as I got older. It's not a day I picked. As an accidental pregnancy, in some ways it's not even a day *my parents* picked. I spent a long time not caring about myself enough to want to celebrate my birthday in any meaningful capacity. I decided to come out socially as non-binary two years ago today. It was one of the first major steps I took to choose myself, so this day has a lot more weight to me. When it came around a year ago, I realized that I hadn't given it the weight I needed to give it, so I'm trying to do better this year and going forward. (1/2)

This space has been an incredibly important part of my story since coming out, so I'd be foolish not to acknowledge the amazing folks I interact with here. I mentioned to someone the other day than my track record for fedi interactions is ridiculously good, and where I've been able to make in-person interactions happen, they've been somehow even better. Thank you for being here as I've figured myself out. If that doesn't apply to you as a reader, I hope you're able to find the same value in this space that I do. Fedi folks are amazing. 💖 Anyway, here's to another year as me — a version of me I care about and like seeing in the mirror. Above all, be you. ❤️ (2/2)
