My studio monitors weren’t getting much use for the past year. I connected them to my record player and…. boah geil. The full range on some of these LPs is *amazing*, and while I don’t think vinyl is inherently better in some way, it’s definitely true that a proper mix/master combined with a pair of speakers that can be driven fully by the mix is amazing to experience. I 100% hear how crushed and compressed most things are in their streaming service delivery now. And the services also normalize levels a bit for predictability. Which is also totally fine. My head phones and car listening are entirely different situations. This mirrors my new awareness of how badass HDR displays are.
