@TimWardCam@c.im @KimSJ@mastodon.social on the one hand, surely even we could be trusted with this referendum... but there's a significant risk we'd end up with Trump owning our water companies, pay per flush, and a return to open sewers. Too soon.

    @jtonline@mastodon.me.uk @KimSJ@mastodon.social Thing is, the average voter doesn't have the information - they just know what the meeja tell them (eg the BBC's support for #brexshit) and they haven't read the hundreds or thousands of pages of evidence that are available to the politicians. (OK, so not all the politicians have read every word either, but a fair number of them have read a fair amount of it.)

    @jtonline@mastodon.me.uk @TimWardCam@c.im It is undoubtedly true that a referendum on water ownership would be a massive waste of money and resources; just imagine the effort the private industry would put into the No campaign. Far better if the Government just did the right thing without such nonsense.
