@screwturn@mastodon.social Yeah, that's point 3 in this thread (and the video I linked has a good explanation of the why). tl;dr: accreted code tends to accumulate and stabilise ("liithify") because it becomes depended upon, and unknown consumers rely on specific behaviour that might go away if you change that behaviour (even if it's not properly specced). This means you need to add more complexity, and you have more stuff to keep in your collective brain. Increased complexity increases the maintenance burden.
