@danmccullough@ecoevo.social @idzie@kolektiva.social How are your hemlock doing? Do you have the woolly adelgid up there? In the Southern Appalachians, hemlocks replaced chestnuts as our biggest trees, and now we're watching the forests completely transform again.

@hydropsyche@ecoevo.social @idzie@kolektiva.social Not good. We’ve had HWA for years and it’s slowly decimating the surrounding wooded areas. The cold winters used to slow them down but that isn’t the case anymore. I’d say about 50% of the hemlocks on my property (7 acres) has it.
