@idzie@kolektiva.social The soil is sandy loam mixed with granite cobbles left by glaciers. The ecosystem has shifted radically over the years. Originally forests managed by controlled burns, then cleared for farming, now returned to mixed species: oaks, pine, red & sugar maple, shadbush & clethra sometimes found in the understory, asters every fall. No teasel. Deer, wild turkeys, and even bobcats are returning. Possums are moving in as winters warm. The original wolves have been replaced by hybrid wolf-coyotes.
