@yaxu@post.lurk.org @henryseg@mathstodon.xyz the chief virtue of LaTeX is that it is portable across time. In forty years it will still be a known format. Papers from 1985 in LaTex are still easy to read and edit; traffic/eqn, PageMaker, word 1.0, etc. or so on are not, in general.

@jayalane@mastodon.online @henryseg@mathstodon.xyz I am very skeptical of that, I've certainly found it hard to get standard conference templates working and would fear trying to recompile my phd thesis now. Even if it was true, markdown is far better defined anyway, and all my points stand.
