There is always a need for constant practice in normal situations to be able handle things when things aren't normal. This is something I learned as a volunteer ski patrol when we had a session on dealing with stressful situations. It was taught by a military test pilot who also flew Chinooks in Afghanistan. He used Flight 1549 as the example for us of how years of training can kick in during a crisis. I now recognize the feeling of calm I get dealing with a crisis in our servers or dbs as basically the same as the one I got doing first response. All of which is to say is if you haven't done the work then when shit hits the fan you're not going to know what to do.
