@foolishowl@social.coop @livcomp@hachyderm.io You might be onto something there. I've been wondering how all of this turned out so Idiocracy. I used to think that smart people would tend to make smart choices, then saw supposed tech geniuses pulling awful crap that's burning the planet-- I figured okay, maybe some intelligent people are just so sociopathic they simply don't care about the damage they're doing for short-term gains... but then everything just keeps getting more and more absurd, and maybe there really aren't evil geniuses left in charge of very much because the sheer aggression of addled brutes is overriding them?

@violetmadder@kolektiva.social @foolishowl@social.coop @livcomp@hachyderm.io I believe that people's emotional intelligence stops developing once a certain level of wealth is achieved, and that this contributes heavily to the "empathy is bad, actually" philosophy that the wealthy right has adopted. This allows them to do horrific things without feeling bad about it. Because they are not challenged intellectually or socially, they feel invincible and love that feeling. They exert domination over others because they always have and no one tells them no in a way that matters to them. I think they all engage in csam because 1.) it's a hazing ritual to force comradery, 2.) it creates secrets that must be kept to prevent mutual destruction, and 3.) provides a way for them to feel powerful, dominant, and special (because it's not accessible to everyone). People continue growing and developing, unless they don't have to. These men don't have to. They have been catered to for their whole lives. They don't have to think of others as real people. The wealth fucks up their brains, and the lack of accountability erodes their understanding of right and wrong.
