@gregeganSF@mathstodon.xyz One can easily find manufacturers’ default passwords for online devices. This means all kinds of monkey business is possible. I occasionally do a public service by changing the SSID of unprotected WiFi to “Change my password”. I’m still trying to understand why a refrigerator needs a web server and powerful WiFi. My neighbor had no idea that his fridge was swamping my WiFi channels. So I disabled his fridge’s WiFi.

    @meltedcheese@c.im @gregeganSF@mathstodon.xyz You can maybe control the fridge to run more when electricity is cheaper, but I very much doubt that over the lifetime of the fridge you'll save enough in energy to pay for the smarts.
