Reading today about the cruelty inflicted upon detainees at ICE c̶o̶n̶c̶e̶n̶t̶r̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶p̶s̶ detention centers, it occurs to me that government legitimacy requires a commitment to humane treatment of everyone. Even if it doesn't always get it right, the commitment needs to be there. The current U.S. federal government's intentional cruelty makes it illegitimate. Our founding fathers had a thing or two to say about what the people are supposed to do to illegitimate governments. #politics #USPol
