Pre-production is where video projects are won or lost. Usually, animation skill gets blamed after a delayed scene, a change, a redo. So I'd spend most of my time improving my skill. Later, I realized it's not about skill at all - people were outsourcing imagination AND vision. The real indicators of an issue show up early on: fuzzy message, crowded script, a committee of opinions.
