I am not responsible for the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people like our auto manufacturers are so I'm less inclined to assert that they have made the wrong decisions in terms of managing the transition off of fossil fuels within an electorate and consumer culture that does not support climate action.

@GreenFire@mstdn.social Good point, but I still think they have some culpability. Intentionally pushing back against pollution controls and efficiency standards. Continued super-sizing trucks & SUVs to abuse the truck-size loophole in CAFE standards. Macho truck guy marketing. Ceding the small car industry to foreign competitors. Ceding EVs to foreign competitors. All to maximize short-term profit at the expense of affordability, the planet & perhaps the very survival of their own companies.
