@fast_code_r_us@floss.social @sako@mastodon.gamedev.place That was what I figured from glancing over the tech specs, that seems pretty cool! I didn't expect bitplanes to still be a thing but it makes sense in the space of e-ink displays

@Ronflaix@mastodon.gamedev.place @sako@mastodon.gamedev.place The controllers (UC81xx / SSD16xx) are designed for 1-bit B/W and 3/4 color was shoehorned in. The normal B/W functioning of the 2 planes is "current" and "previous" pixels so that you can do non-flashing partial updates.

@Ronflaix@mastodon.gamedev.place @fast_code_r_us@floss.social i think it's more of an arduino/microcontroller thing than an e-ink specific thing. these kinds of arrays are normally how you get images on any kind of display on arduino. they're sprites, essentially
