@plwt@mstdn.social I'm honestly on the fence about AI translation and accessibility aids. But the thing that stops me are the environmental and social fabric costs. Like for language translation I do feel that whenever possible more investment needs to be put into the language community, you have a community of folks who study multiple languages and they'd love to be financed to do what they love. Ultimately it is up to the end user of the browser. They also need to understand what's being provided.

Personally, I think that AI translation can help people access medical care, news, farming information and help bring understanding between different locales. With regards to community involvement, I recommend you have a look at the work of https://commonvoice.mozilla.org/en and https://datacollective.mozillafoundation.org/. Awesome people doing awesome work.
