Imagine if Rowling hadn’t been so publicly shitty. What if Joanne quietly enacted her evil in the background and most didn’t know their beloved childhood wizard book was so harmful.
Would you try to explain to people how bad it was, and ruin something that brings people so much joy? Let them forever associate you with overturning their favourite fantasy?
How much would people hate me if I revealed the bad side of something cherished so deeply?
Am I selfish for not wanting to be that person?

This is obviously not about Rowling, but a property with a fandom as rabid and entrenched as the wizard books once were. I die a little inside when I see the endless amounts of fan art and OCs and stories and other works… But I wrestle with how much of a monster I’d be if I spoke up about it. And even if people were happier knowing, I’d always be the one they associated with the end of their blissful ignorance. Some people wouldn’t let it go.
