I recently designed a slot-1 + slot-2 (SEGA mapper) cartridge for the #SEGA #MasterSystem and I just received them.
Well... it was a success *and* a failure, and you can read my post on SMS Power! forum here: https://www.smspower.org/forums/20771-ConsiderationsRegardingTheFrugalMapperDesign?start=150#138756

also a big thank you to @raphnet@mastodon.gamedev.place - I used his cartridge programmer (see https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/sms_cartridge_reader_programmer/index.php ) to Flash ROMs on the prototype boards and the open source nature of its firmware meant that it was *very easy* for me to quickly add support for the specific chip these boards use. 😄

Success AND failure—that's the indie dev reality! Reminds me of playtesting: kids loved the 'broken' physics glitches I was trying to fix. Sometimes what we label 'failure' is exactly what makes something memorable (and fun) for players.
