Cats make terrible real estate. It’s hard to prove you own them when they keep wondering off

  • Cats aren’t animals, they’re robots. The reason they purr is because they have fans. Instead of selling him, unscrew the 4 pentalobe screws to remove the stomach plate, which will then expose 2 torx T6 screws to remove the neck plate. This then exposes 3 of the 7 total torx T4 screws for the 3 frame pieces that need to be unscrewed to access the motherboard. Before accessing the motherboard, 6 Philips head screws must be unscrewed and the board then can be pulled out. Unfortunately, most cats have soldered LPDDR5 RAM chips, and therefore can only be desoldered to extract the DRAM chips, although some models of cat sometimes do have upgradable ram, such as pre 2015 cats with standard SO-DIMM modules (usually 2 sticks from 2 to 4 GB each,) or rare high spec cats which tend to have LPCAMM modules instead (on average being 1 stick of 32gb or higher).

  • So fucking glad I decided to spend a little extra money back in 2022 and get 64 GB of RAM. Now I have collateral if I want to take out a loan.

I had to look it up because I didn’t believe y’all. $755 for 64GB DDR5. I thought I had DDR5 but I guess it’s just DDR4 according to my motherboard. Mother fucker. I could have gotten it for $200 a year ago. I’m at the point where I suggest we start taking ahem excessive action against AI companies.

I would downsize my RAM before giving up my cat. My cat warms my lap directly which is more efficient than warming the room with the PC.

  • Lol, when I was kid whenever I “misbehave” (aka: doing any doing anything she doesn’t like), my mother (we’re Chinese American) would joke like “hey, how much do you think you’re worth if I sold you back to China? … probably nothing since you’re worthless” It was kinda joking, but I got half-scared too lol, couldn’t tell when she was serious. She also joked to me she that “found me in a trashcan somewhere” and took me in. What’s with these “jokes” lmfao 💀 I mean its funny but my soul dies a little 🫠

Reminds me of my big upgrade a little while back. I wanted a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which of course meant a new motherboard and RAM too. I was coming from 64GB of DDR4, and while most of the time I didn’t need it, there were times where I did need it, or it was great to have. I didn’t want to spend the extra money on 64GB of DDR5 memory at the time, and settled with 32GB thinking “it’s fine, I don’t need more than that most of the time anyways, and I can always upgrade later if I need to”. I got 2x16GB, leaving room for two more later on (and allowing myself to graduate from dual channel to that tasty quad channel). Well, fast forward to now, and… it’s not hard to get close to that ceiling. Between video/audio work, BeamNG.Drive being an absolute pig on memory (the Linux kernel is like “absolutely f****** not”, and boots it out of memory to prevent an OOM situation), and running AI models locally just for funsies, I’ve been thinking about an upgrade. lol imagine my face when I see how “64GB prices” are now “32GB prices”. And all of a sudden… I don’t really need it anymore.
