  • @gvwilson@mastodon.social @sue@glasgow.social IANAeconomist, but... one thing is getting paid to have a sustainable activity, another is being *driven by* profit. A sustainable benefit-driven enterprise uses part of profit to both face uncertainty and improve the product/service: all the rest is literally a failure of a fair market (in the product chain up to the customer there's someone not paying the actual cost). As IANAeconomist, my take is just a layman's opinion, glad if someone provides better-informed corrections and possibly references.

    @gvwilson@mastodon.social @sue@glasgow.social I've been rolling code for 24 years and have had a "do good" job only once, and that was for a non-profit. Capitalism and the profit model are the problem, not the individual's attempt to cleave capitalism from the web. Obviously, we all need to eat, but the idea that even a small portion of people -- let alone everyone could do Good and be paid for it under capitalism is fantasy.
