@gvwilson@mastodon.social @sue@glasgow.social IANAeconomist, but... one thing is getting paid to have a sustainable activity, another is being *driven by* profit. A sustainable benefit-driven enterprise uses part of profit to both face uncertainty and improve the product/service: all the rest is literally a failure of a fair market (in the product chain up to the customer there's someone not paying the actual cost).
As IANAeconomist, my take is just a layman's opinion, glad if someone provides better-informed corrections and possibly references.

@joe_vinegar@mastodon.bida.im @gvwilson@mastodon.social @sue@glasgow.social this! you said it much better than i would. we can have amazing commercial companies that are making the world a better place and we can have completely non-profit initiatives that fuck it up for everyone. usually it is easy to see when a company switches away from being driven by making a good product to being driven by profit (see google search).
