@ShadSterling@mastodon.social dire being you will have a very limited hashtag search/follow space and you will only see a small portion of replies to a post. If you choose a smaller instance (and even large ones will miss posts, but not as many).

@Setok@attractive.space I wouldn’t call that dire, that joining a specific community’s instance gets you an experience tailored to that community (and differently by different implementations), but something that should be included in the UI for comparing & choosing instances. You should be able to filter for that, and maybe that filter should be on by default. The help-me-choose pages I’ve seen are all “read some long descriptions”, they should be more like “filter by what you care about”
