@dpreacher@freeradical.zone I have a "rare expenses" spreadsheet that lists the things I've found trip me up. Replacing car tires every ~5 years, for example. Also replacing the mattress, my prescription glasses, etc. The spreadsheet breaks it all down to how much I should put away monthly, to cover the expense when it comes up.
I have a recurring transfer set up that moves that much money into a savings account. Since doing this, there have been far fewer stressful financial events.

@discobeez@mas.to That is really interesting and quite a long term forecast of sorts. So once the surprise bumps are smoothed out by transferring expected expenses the other stuff is usual and "accounted" for. Does this transferred amount have a usage expiry timeline like if the glasses could be bought a little later or tires are fine beyond this date then repurpose the funds for something else? I have my first set of glasses since I first got told "no the fonts are not small" and that's all B(
