@ChristineMalec@mstdn.ca Let me guess, things like just "picture of a dog" or some gabled BS from OCR software is maybe fitting the definition of alt text, but kind of worthless to you?
What about when description turns into interpretation? I'm always unsure about that. There may be pictures that are kind of pointless just described by what can be seen by a very neutral observer. On the other hand I don't want to impose MY interpretation and be more neutral.
Really interested in blind people's thoughts about this, also those of @hspmauli@norden.social

@Bebef@kowelenz.social I'd never call alt text pointless even if it's turse; I still know something I wouldn't have known without it. As for interpretation, I kind of like it, especially when it's your own photo, I mean we're not publishing text books or technical manuals. If you think your cat is the cutest cat in the world I enjoy hearing that, even in alt text. Interpretations can help me understand why an image is powerful or interesting.
