Lunch today with a friend who deliberately left Hong Kong before the British handed it over, to escape Chinese authoritarianism by building a life in the US--who is now going, WTF happened to the US? And on the other side of the table, a friend who was raised in the Quiverfull movement, who thought she'd escaped the Project 2025 ways of thinking she was raised on, only to see it become national policy. Whoof. We have a microcosmic community of trust among the three of us (and our sweeties), at least. But damn. #uspol #uslife
