Expect some of the following to happen in the coming weeks: - celebrities with huge follower counts pushing tiny community-run servers to their knees - instance admin burnout; shutting down of servers - big new servers that don't "vibe" with common rules or culture being widely defederated - some notable account violating an instance code of conduct and throwing a fit - lots of people ragequitting Mastodon for one reason or another - etc. It'll be a rough ride. Patience and strength, all.

@eloquence@social.coop Do you think a lot of celebrities are affected by what's going on up to the point they would decide to go to mastodon? And what about their followers? Are those people who care at all about the situation at Twitter?

@eloquence@social.coop I guess if huge follower bases move to Mastodon, they'll probably go to the mainstream server like mastodon.social? Aren't those servers trying to prepare for the tsunami? Just thinking out loud...

@eloquence@social.coop Funny thing is: I don‘t even care. I‘m happy I found my little niche here and I will make it as comfortable for me ad possible and try to find like-minded people here. Don‘t care if the fediverse is the next big thing. I like it already as it is.

@eloquence@social.coop with celebrities I would contact their management, explain Mastodon make them set up their own servers?

I already saw the first one quit. "Nothing's happening here", he complained. He's posted 6 messages in 8 days...

  • @eloquence@social.coop Yes :( I'm seeing this all over. Some people just want their data to be used and abused so long as it's free. Likes so long as they are free. Dunno, it's a bit sad. But it is a good experiment maybe, and at some point it can happen again. I am happy, I'll stay :) I appreciate the chance of being here. I would like to know more about the server and the people in it.

@eloquence@social.coop ooo, good point actually... I might get my vaguely famous vaguely friends to add to their I've started a mastodon account blurb, a "you don't need to be on the same instance to follow me and see my posts"

@eloquence@social.coop Yep, the big rush hasn't happened yet. If you know it's coming people could be preparing services to help those bigger folks migrate over without breaking things. Offer management and get celebs on their own instance (basically verification) and then could also offer accounts to their cohort fans. Also, an opportunity to set up some initial network-based instances and promote them over core instances.

@eloquence@social.coop Interesting view, quite possible. There’s a historical precedent to the current influx of #Mastodon users: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_September
