@ailepet@peoplemaking.games @edzilla@social.edzilla.info @AlisonW@fedimon.uk They’re not, and that’s the counterpoint to the “Once they exist it will become necessary to always carry it.” assertion in the first message. However they are becoming necessary in more and more situations (sitting exams for example; they’re also pretty much required for France Connect+ which is itself becoming more commonly required). But I know a number of people who’ve never had id and still get on fine for the time being.

@ailepet@peoplemaking.games @edzilla@social.edzilla.info @AlisonW@fedimon.uk unless lost (€25), CIN (carter d'identité Nationale) are free, passport are €86, and valid 15 year (10 older ones). I am ambivalent about it. I grew up with one, so I'm used to it. It helps fight the délit de sale gueule (people who look different: non white) but are also a good excuse to stop people. The question is: can we trust the UK to not abuse the system and data?
