@jpm@aus.social in this case it seems to be a cheap UPS that takes proprietary batteries, or at least, CyberPower has obfuscated it very well if they aren't. there are generics available and they are half the cost, but it seems they need to be exactly model-matched lasting 3-5 years would at least be expected, the problem is, I've only even had this thing for under 5 years, and for close to one year of that it's not even been in use, and this is the second battery that needs replacement. and since I don't test it regularly (because I never remember, not as any strategy on my part) I don't actually know how long it's been dead for but probably some time. so, maybe they're lasting two years, though not with very usable capacity in the latter parts of their lifespans. in any case I don't have a soldering iron or know how to use one
