@matt5sean3@urusai.social the Florida age verification stuff is FOR sure surveillance...and its pointless too...its not like that data isnt readily available as is.

@MannycartoonStudio@retro.social I would disagree on pointless, at least in terms of surveillance. It hits everyone of all ages and closes possibilities for pseudonymous usage of social media networks for everyone, which is a change. If we're talking about Facebook, yes, for sure that information was already available. If we're talking about reddit, pseudonymous usage was always the standard. Granted, there were already loads of possibilities for de-anonymization available if someone has a warrant or the server owner is a boot-licker (as so many corpos are), but the standard implementation also seems to bring in third-parties that are all too happy to hand over information without a warrant.
