@devalot@hostux.social Yep, that's actually a "basic" yet genius design, to put the needed circuitry on the laptop and use 18650 "as is". Not only they have low self discharge so just remove the batterie to store a laptop for weeks, even months without completely depleting the batteries (which destructs lower quality batteries…) but these are standard batteries¹ not device-specific… So they will always be available since they're used on many different devices since the early or middle 90s or so. @SDF@mastodon.sdf.org

    @devalot@hostux.social Unlike usual LiPo with a shitton of glue requiring crappy chemicals to unglue/replace if you can order the right, "compatible" replacement battery, making them more complex and expensive, or older removable batteries¹, they're easy to order when the batteries are dead after years of use. They don't just because unavailable after a few years because the manufacturers want to sell a newer laptop each 2 years, with a different batteries (size, factor form, serialization, circuitry…) @SDF@mastodon.sdf.org
