@regehr@mastodon.social It wouldn't surprise me if IBM had 100s of compiler engineers; but 'at the same place' might be pushing it; there would be the gcc/llvm people in the Linux side, some people in the Power side, of which some people would be in AIX, and probably some in iSeries, then there's the mainframe teams on their own OSs, and the Java people. There would be overlap in some places but not others, where people probably might even not know of each other.

    @penguin42@mastodon.org.uk @regehr@mastodon.social Well IBM had most of their compiler engineers working on XLC (toby) at the hight in Toronto. Most of the GCC developers at IBM at the same time were mostly in Australia at the oz linux lab (which is now closed down). Nvidia engineers are also spread across many different cities too. So if it is mean same place as being same company then things are different. Even Qualcomm has at least 4 sites for their compiler engineers . I don't know how many are in the GPU side of things either.
