@py2toz@mastodon.radio IIRC MeshCore exists at all because Meshtastic’s GPL made it incompatible with Ripple’s closed-source model.

@alec@perkins.pub I don't know the history, let alone the grayer areas of software license, but isn't it possible to ship binary blobs separately in a GPL project (just like Ubuntu does)?

@alec@perkins.pub @py2toz@mastodon.radio I find this whole ecosystem so confusing. I thought about playing with it a few months ago but noped out when I started peaking into stuff like particular bits _not_ being OSS. Is there one concise explainer about Meshtastic (io vs co.uk)/MeshCore/Ripple?
