TIL the difference between 聞く and 聴く Both are pronounced きく, kiku, both mean to hear But 聴く is more like to listen, hearing something actively, while 聞く is hearing something incidentally There's also 訊く, also kiku, to ask/inquire From what I understand, it's still the same verb, and you can use 聞く for all of them, but using 聴 or 訊 adds connotations Government forms and petitions apparently use 聴く for asking something, to add the connotation of intently listening to an opinion?
